Legionellosis is an infectious disease caused by Legionella spp., bacteria that are ubiquitous in natural and artificial aquatic environments. The increasing complexity of water systems, age of infrastructure, growth in vulnerable populations, and climate change have contributed to an increased risk of exposure and spread of the pathogen. Despite advances in understanding the disease, diagnosis is often delayed and prevention remains a significant challenge for public health.
This Special Issue is dedicated to Legionellosis and the spread of Legionella spp., an emerging issue involving clinical, environmental, and microbiological aspects. The Special Issue aims to collect original contributions and reviews on transmission mechanisms, environmental spread, risk factors, surveillance and prevention strategies, the impact of climate change, nosocomial and community infections, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic innovations.
