About the Special lssue

Despite personalized therapy, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is still a chronic disorder of the gastrointestinal tract without complete healing. This special issue aims to explore the IBD pathways, from the morphological aspects to endoscopic features and individualized management of the patients.

Based on original research, case reports and literature review-based papers, the guest editor intends to emphasize the importance of the interdisciplinary research in the understanding of this challenging disease with multiple faces.

Side effects of the drugs used to treat IBD might also be explored and be part of the issue, similar to the effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine or other natural substances, but the scientific reliability and validity of the studies need to be checked.

The special issue aims to include data about well-known IBDs such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, but other inflammatory-related lesions of the gastrointestinal tract might be included (e.g., esophagitis, gastritis, diverticulosis with diverticulitis, tuberculosis, inflamed malformations or vascular lesions, mimickers of IBD).

Keywords: Gastrointestinal tract, immunohistochemistry, biomarkers, inflammatory pathways, malignancy
