About the Special lssue

Cardiovascular diseases are increasingly recognized as conditions influenced not only by biological mechanisms but also by psychological, emotional, and neurocognitive factors. The heart–brain axis represents a complex and bidirectional system in which neural, hormonal, and behavioral processes interact with cardiovascular functioning. This Special Issue aims to explore heart–brain interactions from a clinical and psychological perspective, highlighting the role of stress, emotional regulation, psychosomatic processes, addiction, and mental health conditions in cardiovascular risk, progression, and recovery. Particular attention will be given to interdisciplinary approaches that integrate cardiology, clinical psychology, psychosomatic medicine, and behavioral sciences. Original research articles, systematic reviews, and clinical studies are welcome, especially those focusing on assessment, prevention, and intervention strategies that address both psychological and cardiovascular dimensions of health. By fostering dialogue between clinicians and researchers across disciplines, this Special Issue seeks to advance a more holistic understanding of cardiovascular function and promote innovative, patient-centered models of care.

Keywords: Heart–brain interaction, cardiovascular psychology, psychosomatic medicine, stress and cardiovascular disease, emotional regulation, clinical psychology, behavioral medicine
