Diabetic patients have 2-4 times higher cardiovascular risk compared with people without diabetes. Cardiovascular diseases are silent in patients with diabetes. Sexual dysfunctions and peripheral artery disease are strongly associated with the development of overt and silent cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, comprehensive patient education is essential to correctly manage diabetes and comorbidities and, consequently, to reduce the individual cardiovascular risk.
In addition, sexual dysfunctions, peripheral artery disease, and patient education play a major role not only in identifying diabetic patients with the highest cardiovascular risk or silent cardiovascular diseases but also in the effective management of these patients.
This special issue aims to gather current knowledge on the effects of sexual dysfunctions, peripheral artery disease, and patient education on the cardiovascular risk of patients with diabetes. We welcome original research and reviews (including systematic reviews and meta-analyses) that provide useful information for cardiologists, diabetologists, endocrinologists, internists, and nurses, and inspire further innovative research.
