Percentages in the overall column represent the percentage of the total analytic cohort (n = 255,731). Within each outcome-group column, the first percentage (before the semicolon) is the column percentage, indicating the proportion within that outcome group’s own total; the second percentage (after the semicolon) is the row percentage, indicating the proportion of each characteristic level falling into that outcome group, summing approximately to 100% across Groups 1–4 for that row. *: Chi-square tests were used to compare the distribution of all categorical variables across the four outcome groups (alive, BCSM, CSM, OCM). As age, race, marital status and all clinicopathological variables in this table are presented in categorical form, no separate test for continuous variables was required. BC: breast cancer; BCSM: breast cancer-specific mortality; BCT: breast-conserving therapy; CSM: cardiovascular-specific mortality; ER: estrogen receptor; HER2: human epidermal growth factor receptor 2; ME: mastectomy; OCM: other cause mortality; PR: progesterone receptor.
