    About the Special Issue

The role of radiology is well established in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal (MSK) problems. Although the anatomical and structural changes of the disease can be well delineated on imaging, molecular level information are needed to better understand the underlining mechanisms of the disease. Molecular imaging offers two key advantages: (1) it detects the biologic processes at the underlying molecular level, rather than simply at the tissue level; and (2) provides diagnostic information at an earlier time point during a disease onset or repair process. This issue is focused on highlighting new advances in macro and microlevel imaging for better understanding of the underlining mechanisms of the disease, as well as on new methods for more efficient therapy. Both contributed and review papers will be of interest.
